ACON Email/Web Network User Guide
h_divider: horizontal divider

This User Guide will hopefully answer a few basic questions about ACON's email/web networks, how to use them, and its goals and policies. Please read it carefully, refer to it first if you have any questions, and bookmark this page for future reference.

WHAT ARE ACON AND ACON EMAIL/WEB NETWORKS?

ACON is a networking project to bring Asian American Pacific Islander community groups and concerned individuals together in an online community. The Internet provides an opportunity for different community circles to stay in touch with key events and news.

If you are subscribed to an ACON regional network, you will receive postings of REGIONAL concerns, events, campaigns, action alerts, and so on as well as NATIONAL postings forwarded from our ACON-National network. (It is not necessary to subscribe to ACON-National if you are already subscribed to an ACON regional network.) Job postings are centralized at our ACON-Jobs network.

To find out more about other ACON networks or services, explore ACON.org.

POSTING GUIDELINES

Registration or subscription is required to post at any of our ACON networks due to the prevalence of spam submitted to our networks. Be sure to post from the email address you have registered with/subscribed to ACON-Jobs. (To add other addresses to be recognized, see Customizing Your Subscription Settings )

If posting to ACON-Jobs, include the JOB TITLE in the subject header along with the CITY and STATE of the job opportunity. Do not submit resumes, they will not be approved for distribution.

Post requests during weekdays are generally approved within 24 hours for distribution. Please allow additional time on weekends. However we recommend contributors to event announcements one to two weeks in advance for our readers to plan ahead and maximize your exposure. Submissions with shorter notice (especially less than 48 hours) are less likely to be approved.

Attachments will be removed from postings to avoid complications due to viruses and large downloads for our modem subscribers. Instead, include the text of such attachments or a link to download the attachment in the body of the message.

ACON is not meant to take the place of nor duplicate other mailing lists by posting each of their messages. We do encourage posting selectively those events that you deem of interest to the general public or are best to attract new members to your organization (after which they would subscribe to your list and you would want to keep duplicate mailings to a minimum).

ACON will allow posts to track an issue campaign. This includes breaking news, calls for action, significant updates, and resolution of campaigns. ACON will also redirect interested readers through news item links at http://www.acon.org.

ACON is not a reminder service. Do not attempt to submit postings that have posted previously. Updates with significant changes are the exception.

Postings that serve to campaign for or against any candidate for public office are not allowed. Non-partisan postings for the purpose of voter education are allowable subject to review by ACON moderators.

Unsolicited commercial solicitation ("spam"), for-profit events, and the likes of which are unrelated to work of community based organizations do not have a place here.

Violators will be given one warning. After that, their Internet providers will be notified, the offender will be removed, and or other appropriate actions will be taken as behavior warrants.
